Díospóireacht/ Debating

Bíonn deis ag scoláirí páirt a ghlacadh i ndíospóireachtaí scoile. Cothaíonn díospóireachtaí scileanna cosúil le smaointeoireacht chriticiúil, cumarsáid, agus comhoibriú. Fásann scoláirí go pearsanta agus cuireann siad lena gcuid féin-mhuiníne trí phlé a dhéanamh ar shaincheisteanna casta. Foghlaimíonn scoláirí conas dearcadh a chur in iúl agus cuireann siad lena gcumas labhairt go poiblí.

Reáchtálann Geal Linn Díospóireacht Uí Chadhain do mheánscoileanna Gaeltachta agus gaelcholáistí gach bliain. Is comórtas díospóireachta é a ritear go hiomlán trí mheán na Gaeilge. Is í príomhaidhm an chomórtais ná an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn ar scoil, i saol daoine óga agus sa phobal i gcoitinne. Glacann foireann sóisir agus foireann sinsir ón scoil páirt sa chomórtas seo gach bliain. Glacann na foirne páirt i réamhbhabhta réigiúnach in aghaidh scoileanna eile. Má éiríonn leo sna réamhbhabhtaí bíonn deis acu páirt a ghlacadh sa bhabhta leathcheannais agus sa chraobh réigiúnach.

Students are given the opportunity to participate in school debates. Not only does debating improve critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills, but it also serves as a means for personal development and boosts self-confidence. Through navigating complex issues and articulating their points of view, students refine their ability to express themselves fluently and thrive at public speaking.

Díospóireacht Uí Chadhain, organised annually by Gael Linn, is a debating competition for Irish medium secondary schools, conducted entirely in Irish. Its primary objective is to promote the Irish language within schools, among young people, and in the wider community. Every year, both junior and senior teams from Gaelcholáiste Phort Láirge participate in this competition. Students compete in regional preliminary rounds. Successful teams from the preliminaries advance to the semifinals and regional championships.
